Hi everyone, I'm an M3 and I'm only a few weeks into surgery but since this is the specialty I am applying in I am really stressing this shelf exam. I am a US MD student, which meant my third year was a traditional clerkship-based curriculum with shelf exams at the end of each rotation. I used UW throughout the year to study for shelves and construct my Anki cards. This is, essentially, the entire backbone of my Step 2 review.

I got 86th percentile on the shelf. Read pestana twice and did all the questions, did all Uworld surgery questions, and read the first 150 pages of Current diagnosis and treatment Surgery (mandatory school textbook). A lot of the exam is pre and post op care and complications which Current diagnosis covers thoroughly.Surgery was very last rotation and shelf. I was sort of tired of the casefiles books by that point - though they are great- so I didn’t use it. I was not a great student as far as studying goes during surgery and I would try and do a few uworld questions here and there and read some devirgilio daily. We had weekends off so I would catch up then.
