Serana can easily disappear forever and sometimes the Dawnguard quests will just disappear from your quest log as if you don't even have the DLC. The absolute dumbest thing is that you can bring her to Fort Dawnguard first. Then Isran tells you to do what she tells you, despite her having a goddamn Elder Scrolls clearly visible on her back. And later on he acts surprised that you let this happen, which makes zero sense if you came back to see him first after Dimhollow Crypt. Bethesda didn't change anything. The whole ceremony being rape thing was a fan-made theory that interpreted the dialogue between Serana and Valerica along with what happened to Lamae Bal to mean that all Daughters of Coldharbour had to be raped.
