Pulling the knife with a slight angle toward the board kept directly on the line. I may redo the first section I started near the transom, not super happy with how it turned out.

I picked up the Salt Marsh Heron 18 this week and have a similar issue with the top of the 115 motor hitting the poling platform, even with the jackplate fully down. This rod has a very nice backbone while keeping a lively enough tip for tossing light baits and lures. I believe it casts light (1/8 and less) and heavier (1/2 and more) better than a st croix inshore avid 7'6" medium light power fast action, and that avid costs $90 more (but comes with a 15yr warranty).
