I emptied all old gas before initial crankup. I put some Mercury Quikleen in the tank before adding new gas. Yes the XR2 would rev between 5500 to 6000 compared to 5000-5500 of the standard blackmax. It is slightly ported, 200hp exhaust and jetted carbs. It will give you a slightly better performance then the black max engine if it is still in good shape.
