I am getting a light roar or waa waa waa waa only on light acceleration going down the highway that stops when you let off the gas. Dealer said not worth tearing it out at this point. The Ford Ranger 4x4 received a new SLA (Short arm Long Arm) suspension in 1998, and used that suspension until its production end in 2011. Unlike the reverse rotation Dana 35 used from 1990-1997, the Dana 35 SLA is a standard rotation axle. The Dana 300 takes a GL5 rated gear oil, same as the diffs. No additives needed. The transmission however takes a GL4 rated gear oil or synchromesh fluid. This is the first time I've changed out the gear oil in a scout and I was only able to get 1 quart in before the oil started leaking back out. Even with a slight volume different due to a custom cover I would just pour in 1 3/4 quarts, maybe an RCH more for a larger capacity cover, and call it a day.If it's a '75, it will be a 9 1/4", it will have the 5 on 4.5" bolt pattern, as will the '77 model axle and any other 1/2 ton axle built between '75 and '79. In '80 they went back to the larger 5 on 5.5" bolt pattern. IT was factory filled with 75W-90 But ford has since updated to use 75W-145 for in service fluid changes on the rear ends.
