A named fighter thralls with good armor and weapon is the best option for every combat outside the base at this time. Pets for out and about, thralls for defense. Pets suck ass at defense atm since they cant be protected from gas, but they have huge hp pools for tanking mobs while out and about.Pets can be a lot of fun, but they'll never measure up to better thralls as far as their abilities as a "follower" go. For general traveling, My preference was to go with Greater Hyena, Greater Wolf, or Greater Sabretooth, but only for kicks. Almost any T4 thrall with decent equipment will do more damage and have more survivability.
